   RESEARCH EXPERIENCE

Principal Investigator

August 2012 - May 2016
Nutrition Department at UNC | Chapel Hill, NC
  • Designed a mixed-methods research project that included focus groups, secondary data analysis and pilot testing of a tailored behavioral weight loss intervention using a 2-arm randomized control trial.
  • Wrote grant proposals and acquired all project funding.
  • Responsible for oversight of all research-related activities including participant recruitment, staff recruitment and training, data collection, process evaluation, data analysis and reporting.

Graduate Research Assistant

UNC Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention | Chapel Hill, NC
  • Collected, summarized and analyzed qualitative and quantitative data from public health research projects then interpret the results in context to the larger literature base on the topic.
  • Created public health education materials by consolidating and translating technical scientific information to a format that is appropriate for a lay audience.
  • Collaborated effectively on a regular basis with a diverse set of project stakeholders (e.g. academics, administrators, study participants, etc.) on the development of new research proposals and the publication of research findings in scientific manuscripts.

PROJECT MANAGER

  • Oversaw the implementation of a school-based intervention research project (12 schools).
  • Planned and conducted all study-related meetings and activities involving a diverse set of stakeholders (.e.g. funders, parents, teachers, principals, students, county-level school administrators, etc.).
  • Evaluated progress towards meeting program objectives at regular intervals.
  • Adapted protocols and/or timelines to accommodate for the inevitable variability associated with implementing any program while still remaining accountable to meet larger project goals in a timely fashion.
